FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Medicare

Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. They bundle Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) benefits into one plan and often include prescription drug coverage (Part D), dental, vision, and hearing benefits. Plan availability, costs, and covered services vary by county and carrier.

Medicare Supplement plans, also known as Medigap policies, help pay for out-of-pocket costs that Original Medicare does not cover, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. These plans are sold by private insurers and are standardized in most states. You must be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B to purchase a Medigap policy.

There are specific enrollment periods for Medicare plans. The Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) runs from October 15 to December 7 each year, allowing you to join, switch, or drop a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period runs January 1 to March 31. You may also qualify for a Special Enrollment Period based on certain life events. A licensed agent can walk you through your timing options.
